Dear Practitioner,

I want to share something with you that took me decades to truly understand.

Even though I was a physician…
Even though I studied neuroscience…
Even though I spent years in therapy…

For most of my life, I struggled with crippling anxiety.

And like many people with anxiety, I did everything I was told to do.

I saw countless therapists.
I worked with psychiatrists.
I learned cognitive strategies.
I tried to understand and analyze my thoughts.

And while some of those approaches helped me cope, the anxiety itself never truly went away.

Eventually, after years of searching for relief, I began exploring a very different way of understanding anxiety — one that focused less on the mind and more on what was happening in the body.

That shift changed everything.

As I began working directly with the sensations of alarm in my own body, something remarkable started to happen.

For the first time in my life, my anxiety actually began to subside.

Not because I had found a better way to think about it.

But because I had finally begun working with the deeper physiological alarm driving it.

And it led me to a realization that would eventually shape all of my work.

If anxiety were truly just a problem of thinking…

Why does it feel so powerful in the body?

Why can someone understand their anxiety perfectly, yet still feel that tightness in their chest, that dread in their stomach, that sense of danger they can’t explain?

The answer, I came to realize, is that anxiety doesn’t begin as a thinking problem.

It begins as alarm in the body.

A deep physiological sense that something isn’t safe.

The mind then tries to explain that alarm through worry, rumination, and anxious thoughts.

But those thoughts aren’t the root of the problem.

They’re the mind trying to make sense of what the body already feels.

Over time, that realization led me to develop a mind-body framework for understanding anxiety that eventually became the foundation of my book Anxiety Rx and the work I now teach through my program, MBRX.

Through that work, thousands of people have begun learning how to reconnect with their bodies and resolve the alarm driving their anxiety.

But over the years, something else began to happen.

More and more practitioners started reaching out to me.

Therapists.
Coaches.
Physicians.

Many of them told me they were seeing the same thing in their clients that I had once experienced myself.

Clients who understood their anxiety.
Clients who had done years of therapy.
Clients who knew their patterns intellectually…

…and yet the anxiety itself still lingered in the body.

They wanted to know how to work with that deeper layer.

How to help clients move beyond managing anxiety…
and begin resolving the alarm beneath it.

For a long time, I wasn’t sure if I would ever teach this work to practitioners.

But the more I heard from clinicians who genuinely wanted better ways to help their clients, the more I realized something.

There are countless people suffering from anxiety right now who may never encounter this perspective unless the practitioners helping them understand it first.

Which is why I decided to create Anxiety Rx: Clinical Foundations.

This is a 6-week practitioner training where I’ll share the core mind-body framework I developed after decades of working with anxiety.

A framework that helps practitioners understand why anxiety persists, and how to work with the underlying alarm that drives it.

It’s not about replacing everything you already do.

It’s about adding a deeper understanding of anxiety that many practitioners were never taught.

This is the training I wish practitioners had access to when I was suffering.

Because when practitioners understand how anxiety truly works in the body, it changes the way they see their clients… and the way they help them heal.

If this perspective resonates with you, I’d love to invite you to apply to join the founding cohort.

ABOUT ME

I'm Dr. Russ Kennedy

After decades of clinical practice—and my own lifelong struggle with chronic anxiety, during which I saw dozens of therapists—I began to recognize that most traditional approaches help people manage symptoms and reframe worries cognitively, but rarely lead to lasting healing.

My work focuses on understanding anxiety as arising from a chronic, overprotective physiological state of alarm in the body, rather than primarily a problem of fearful thinking. In fact, I often say that anxiety is more of a feeling issue that thinks than a thinking issue that feels. Drawing from medicine, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and my training as a certified somatic therapist, I developed a framework that helps people address anxiety at its root. My first book, Anxiety Rx, has sold over 100,000 copies and explores this perspective in detail.

In this 6-week practitioner program, I share the clinical understanding behind this approach so you can integrate it into your own practice and help clients move beyond lifelong symptom management toward genuine healing. You’ll learn how to guide them in recognizing the victim-based patterns of helplessness that have likely fueled their chronic worry since childhood, and how to reconnect mind and body—bringing the adult self back into compassionate relationship with the child self—creating a state of embodied agency. From this place, the underlying alarm in the body can begin to resolve, so the mind no longer needs to escape into chronic worry.
